Our Space
The Story
The historic two story limestone and brick building we affectionately call the 'tree house' is thought to have had early life as a fruit and vegetable shop next to a horse carriage house. It later became a taxi stand.
In 1940 the small building became home to Grunberger Jewelers, a family shop originally further south on Atlantic Street since 1911. The current building owner, spent part of his childhood on the second floor gift department polishing and washing silveplated hollowware and flatware and and packing china cups, bowls and plates sold for bridal registries. Most of his teenage years were spent on the first floor where he built and operated a small fine jewelry manufacturing workshop in the back of his Father’s jewelry store.
Later, other tenants filled the building with life and history. Ignition 13 , a hipster graphic design firm held the space for five years and for the past fifteen years Future Five, our beloved successful mentoring charity, whose vision seeks “a world where all students can be part of a vibrant and supportive community and access the people and resources they need for college, career and life success”. Navaratna is the delicious vegetarian, kosher South Asian restaurant on the first floor. The building has got some good vibes.
On an autumn morning in 2024, James Grunberger suggested that Sala Tree Yoga House founder, Jen Irwin, fill the space with yoga, meditation and well- being for the Stamford Downtown at Atlantic Square. James’ childhood stomping grounds is now a vibrant metro home to more than 50,000 residents, 50,000 workforce employees and 2200 college students.
It was decided. James had the space refit as a beautiful new urban yoga studio retaining the charm of an historic building. Jen donned it the tree house, a place where everyone in the neighborhood is welcome for healthy and wholesome activities centered around yoga, meditation, healing, recovery, creativity, spirituality and movement.
We are so grateful to James for his offering and vision of a space for collective well-being in our city. It begins with the health and well-being of one person at a time.
Come on over and continue the legacy of filling the space with love, life and our most precious health!

The Rooms
The space has been designed with a spacious yoga room to accommodate large gatherings, a comfortable living room, foyer and rest room. We enjoy high ceilings, new wood floors and windows with a view over Veteran's Park.
With the intention of being a sanctuary nestled above a bustling metro, the interior is appointed with natural elements and a color palate inspired by marigolds.
A kiosk just outside the yoga room will allow you to check in with just one touch. We celebrate the chance to intentionally disconnect from devices by turning them off and keeping them out of sight on provided shelves during practice.
The Studio as a Venue
The studio is a beautiful venue for an event, workshop, training session or photo shoot. It is available for sublet outside of class hours. We welcome interests aligned with healing, growth, creativity and wholesome fun. Use the contact form to request an application for space rental.
